Fractional shares
wall stCan I buy fractional shares on Stake Wall St?
You can buy fractional shares on Stake Wall St. This means you can invest a specific dollar amount in a stock, even if it’s too expensive to buy a full share (e.g. US$50 of a US$500 stock).
How fractional orders work
Buying: Enter the dollar amount (e.g. US$100 of TSLA).
Selling: Enter the share amount (e.g. 4.3142 shares).
Fractional shares can only be traded using Market or Stop orders (not Limit orders).
If you place a Market Buy for a whole share, your final holding might be just above or below 1 full share (e.g. 0.99 shares).
If your order includes more than one full share, you might receive multiple trade confirmations (e.g. whole shares vs fractions).
Ownership
Fractional shares carry the same ownership rights as full shares — including voting and dividends. They’re held in your name under a custodial model via our U.S. broker partner, DriveWealth.
All orders follow best execution rules, meaning you get the best available price based on factors like speed, cost, and market conditions.
Why did I receive less than 1 whole unit?
Wall St prices can move quickly due to market fluctuations. When you place a Market Order for a whole number of shares, the system aims to fill it at the best available prices — but those prices and quantities can change in real time.
As your order is filled across different price levels, this can result in a fractional share being included. For example, you may receive 0.99 or 1.01 shares instead of exactly 1.
Can I buy fractional shares on Stake AUS?
You can’t buy fractional shares on Stake AUS. The ASX operates under the CHESS model, which only supports full-share trading.
Other platforms that offer fractional ASX shares usually use a custodial model, where the broker holds the full shares and allocates fractional amounts to users under their name.
