Password and 2FA troubleshooting
If you’re having trouble logging in or completing two-factor authentication (2FA), try these steps to get back into your account.
Trouble receiving your security code via SMS?
If you're not receiving your verification code by SMS, try the following steps:
Tap ‘Resend code’ on the code entry screen
You may need to wait for the 30-second countdown to finish before the option appears — this gives your device time to receive the original code
When prompted, you’ll see additional options:
Resend via WhatsApp: Ideal if you’re connected to Wi-Fi but don’t have mobile service
Update your mobile number: You can do this via the pop-up or by heading to Profile > Edit
Check if you have set up an authenticator app instead
You may have set up an authenticator app when you first enabled 2FA.
Open your authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, or similar).
Look for a code listed under Stake — if you see one, that means 2FA via an authenticator is active.
If you can’t find it and you haven’t recently changed your number, please contact us and we can confirm your 2FA method.
Common password and 2FA issue troubleshooting
Sometimes browser settings or network tools can interfere with login or 2FA codes.
VPN: If you’re using a VPN, try disabling it and logging in again
Adblockers: Turn off any adblockers or browser extensions that might block code fields.
Refresh the app
If you’re using the Stake app and it’s not behaving as expected:
Force close the app completely and reopen it
Update to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
Make sure you’re using the right email
It’s easy to mix up email addresses if you have more than one.
Try searching your inbox for recent emails from Stake — this can confirm which email is linked to your account.
Too many attempts error
If you’ve tried to log in too many times with the wrong details, your account will be temporarily locked for security reasons.
Here’s what to do:
Wait 15 minutes before trying again
Use the ‘Forgot password?’ option to reset your login
Make sure you are using the correct email linked to your Stake account.
If none of these steps work, our team can help get you back on track. To do so, click ‘Still need our help?’ below and send us an outline of what you are experiencing. Screenshots and any error messages you can provide will help us resolve things quickly.
What if I can’t use SMS verification?
If receiving SMS codes is unreliable for you, you can switch your two-factor authentication (2FA) method to use a device authenticator app, such as Authy or Google Authenticator.
Once enabled, your account will no longer rely on SMS — instead, you'll receive your verification codes directly through the authenticator app on your device.
