How can we help?

Earn 1% of your share transfer in cash

Transfer an eligible U.S. investment portfolio worth at least US$2,500 to Stake and you'll receive a cash reward equal to 1% of the value transferred, up to US$10,000.

Your reward is paid as cash in up to 12 equal monthly payments. It'll show as USD buying power in your Stake account. You can use it to invest, leave it as available cash or withdraw it, subject to the offer terms and Stake's normal withdrawal process.

For example:

  • a US$50,000 transfer unlocks US$500 – roughly US$42 a month for 12 months
  • a US$1,000,000 transfer unlocks US$10,000 – roughly US$833 a month for 12 months

There's no limit to the size of the portfolio you bring in, however the 1% reward will only apply up to US$1,000,000 in transferred value.

The transfer reward applies to your first qualifying portfolio transfer only.

To remain eligible for the monthly payments, you’ll need to keep your investments with Stake. You can make net cash withdrawals up to 20% of your transferred portfolio value during the 12-month reward period without affecting your reward payments.

Eligibility for the portfolio transfer reward

The offer is available to new and existing Stake customers. The reward applies to your first qualifying portfolio transfer only, which must be initiated on or after the launch date of this offer.

If you transfer shares out of Stake on or after the offer launch date, you won't be eligible to earn the reward by transferring back to Stake within 12 months of the outbound portfolio transfer.

Share transfers out of Stake before the offer launch date won't affect your eligibility.

How portfolio transfers are valued and how your reward is calculated

Each investment is valued at its closing market price on the day it settles in your Stake account. If your investments arrive at different times, each will be valued on its own settlement date.

Your transfer is complete once all investments have arrived and we have confirmed completion. Your reward is then calculated using the total value of your completed transfer, and your reward period starts from that date.

You may see investments in your account before the transfer is marked as complete. Because transfers can take several days to settle, the market value of your investments may change between when you initiate the transfer and settlement.

Receiving your cash reward

Your reward is paid in up to 12 equal monthly payments.

Your first payment will be made within 15 days after the end of the calendar month your portfolio transfer is completed. Subsequent payments will then be made within 15 days after each following month-end.

  • For example, if your transfer is completed on 2 June, your first payment will be made by 15 July. The next payment will then be made by 15 August.

Using your portfolio transfer reward

Your reward will show as USD buying power in your Stake account.

It's yours to use as you choose, including investing it, leaving it as cash or withdrawing it, subject to the offer terms and our standard withdrawal process.

Cash withdrawals during the reward period

You can make net cash withdrawals up to 20% of your transferred portfolio value during the 12-month reward period without affecting your remaining reward payments.

We assess your net cash withdrawals on the last day of each calendar month. If they exceed your withdrawal allowance on that date, you won't receive a reward payment for that month. Any payment you don't receive is forfeited and won't be made up later.

Your reward payments will resume from the next month-end when your net cash withdrawals are back within your allowance, such as after you fund your account.

  • Example 1: If you transferred a portfolio worth US$50,000, you could make net cash withdrawals of up to US$10,000 during your 12-month reward period.
  • Example 2: If you transferred a portfolio worth US$50,000 and withdrew US$20,000 during the reward period – 40% of your transferred portfolio value – you'd need to fund your account with US$10,000 to return within your withdrawal allowance. Your reward payments would then resume.

Buying, selling and movements in the market value of your investment after the transfer do not affect your reward.

Eligibility for monthly reward payments

To continue receiving your monthly reward payments during the 12-month reward period, you'll need to:

  • Keep your assets with Stake. If you do an outbound portfolio transfer to another broker during the reward period, your remaining reward payments will stop.
  • Keep within your net cash withdrawals allowance. You can make net cash withdrawals up to 20% of your transferred portfolio value during the 12-month reward period without affecting your remaining reward payments.
  • Continue to meet the offer terms. This includes not engaging in fraudulent or abusive activity.

Any reward payments you've already received in accordance with the offer terms are yours to keep.

Transfer types and investments you can transfer to Stake

Stake supports ACATS, DTC, DWAC and DRS transfers, making it easy to move eligible US investments from another broker to your Stake account.

You can transfer:

  • U.S.-listed securities, including shares and ETFs
  • USD cash balances from certain providers. Currently, this is available for transfers from Hatch only

When you search for a ticker during the portfolio transfer process in the Stake app, supported securities will appear in the dropdown.

Partial portfolio and fractional share transfers

You can transfer your entire portfolio or only selected investments. Keep in mind the transfer reward only applies to your first qualifying transfer.

Only whole shares can be transferred and any remaining fractions of a share will remain in your portfolio. However, fractional share transfers may be supported from brokers that use the same U.S. brokerage partner as Stake (DriveWealth). Currently, this includes Hatch and Sharesies.

Portfolio transfer times

Your part usually takes five to ten minutes and can be completed in the Stake app. There are no forms to fill out or print unless your current investing platform requests them.

Transfer times vary depending on your current investing platform and the investments you're transferring.

Transfers from Hatch: are typically processed overnight once we submit your request, provided all information has been provided. That's because Hatch and Stake use DriveWealth as their U.S. brokerage partner. However, you should allow five to seven business days in case of delays.

Transfers from Sharesies: while Sharesies also uses the same U.S. brokerage partner as Stake, you should allow five to ten business days as they require you to initiate a transfer-out request with them. This can be done in the Sharesies app.

If your transfer is delayed for reasons outside your control, you'll remain eligible for the transfer reward.

Portfolio transfer fees

Stake doesn't charge any fees on portfolio transfers into your Stake account.

Your current broker may charge transfer-out or account closure fees, so it's worth checking before you begin.

Previous share transfers out of Stake

Share transfers out of Stake before the offer launch date won't affect your eligibility.

If you transfer shares out of Stake on or after the offer launch date, you won't be eligible to earn the reward by transferring back to Stake within 12 months of the outbound portfolio transfer.

Offer duration and changes

It's an ongoing offer, not a limited-time promotion.

We can change, pause or withdraw it at any time, but a change won't take away a reward you've already earned on a transfer you started before the change, unless the law requires it, or in cases of fraud or promotional abuse.

Tax implications

Receiving the reward or transferring your investments may have tax implications.

Stake doesn't provide tax advice. If you're unsure how this applies to your circumstances, consider seeking independent advice.

How to transfer your portfolio to Stake

You can do this on the Stake app.

New to Stake? Sign up and open a Stake account. It's free and usually only takes a few minutes. See our Getting Started FAQs.

On the app Go to Manage → Account → Transfer portfolio

What you'll need:

  • A portfolio statement no older than three months showing the investments you're looking to transfer
  • Your signature, to authorise the transfer
  • A driver licence or passport to complete a quick ID verification check so we can make sure it's really you

There are no forms to fill out or print, unless requested by your current broker. We recommend checking with your current broker if there is any information they require to process your transfer.

See step-by-step guides for:

Reducing transfer delays

Some transfer delays may be outside your control, but you can help reduce them by:

  • Providing accurate information about the investments you want to transfer, including quantities and amounts
  • Making sure the portfolio or account statement you upload shows the investments you want to transfer, is dated within the last three months and has personal details that match those on your Stake account
  • Making sure there are no pending trades, unsettled transactions or other activity that could delay the transfer
  • Keeping enough funds in the account you're transferring from to cover transfer-out fees charged by your current provider, if any
  • Responding promptly if Stake or your current provider asks for more information
  • Making sure the photo of your identity document is clear, taken in good lighting and free from glare

Average buy price

When you transfer U.S. shares into Stake, your cost basis is sent across automatically by the broker that delivered the shares, as part of the transfer process. It's typically received within 15 business days of the transfer completing.

If your cost basis still hasn't come through after 15 business days:

  1. Contact our Support team here
  2. Send us:
    1. The stock ticker (e.g. AAPL)
    2. The correct average buy price

Where a cost basis has been provided by the broker that sent your shares, it reflects their records and generally can't be changed manually.

Rejected transfers

We'll let you know if your transfer is rejected, or if an investment can't be transferred to Stake.

All transfers are subject to Stake's review and approval, including identity, eligibility and Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) checks.

We may request information from you at any time, including about your source of funds or wealth. We may decline or delay a transfer if these checks aren't satisfied.
