Performance calculation (dollar)
We know it's important to see how your investments are performing. The figures in your performance chart are designed to give you a helpful idea of your portfolio's journey over time.
How is my dollar performance calculated?
Your performance chart provides a complete picture of your investment decisions by tracking your total return in each period (for Wall St and Aus separately). This sums up:
- Unrealised gains/losses: The change in value of the investments you currently hold
- Realised gains/losses: The profit or loss from the investments you have already sold
Please note: This performance only reflects the money you have invested. It does not include any cash sitting in your buying power (uninvested funds).
We use the following formula:
Dollar return = Current equity – Starting equity – Dollars invested + Equities sold
Example:
| Amount | |
| Current equity | $1,700 |
| Starting equity | $1,000 |
| Dollars invested | $800 |
| Equities sold | $300 |
| Dollar return | $1,700 – $1,000 – $800 + $300 = +$200 |

Your performance chart is for general information only. It shouldn’t be the sole basis for your investment decisions. Values may vary over time, and your actual returns may differ from those shown. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.
